Plain Jane RTD
Plain Jane is a new RTD drink company in based in New Zealand specialising in canned cocktails. A refreshing departure from the overcomplicated and diluted RTDs currently saturating the market, the brand centers its focus on simplicity, revisiting the cherished classic concoctions that hold a special place in the hearts of Kiwis, the vision was to craft basic RTDs that harmoniously blend classic Kiwi fizzy drinks with spirits, without unnecessary frills
I was tasked to create a brand identity that not only reflected their rebellious and cool nature but also championed their female-led company. To achieve this, I designed a simple custom wordmark logo and complemented it with a Jane character illustration as a mark of female empowerment. I collaborated with the team at White Rabbit on the visual language, the main focus was to create something Vibrant, Quirky, Cool, Creative, Bold and Rebellious- these attributes represent the essence of the Plain Jane brand.

Plain Jane effectively reflects the core essence of our brand. “Plain Jane” is a colloquial phrase often used to describe something that is simple, unadorned, or lacking in over- the-top flashy or extravagant qualities. It’s a term that typically conveys a sense of un- derstated or minimalistic style, without any unnecessary frills. While the recipe is basic we wanted the design to be unique and eye-catching in the RTD market.
We go back to the basics and offer a straightforward, no-nonsense approach to RTD beverages. The name “Plain Jane” reflects this idea of simplicity, authenticity, and a return to the fundamental elements that kiwis love, appreciate and enjoy. It suggests that our products are focused on the core essence of the beverages that people love, without the need for extravagant or overcomplicated frills. Often, it’s the simplest things in life that are the most extraordinary.
